How do battery testers work?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2008

On some batteries (Energizer, Duracell?), it has little pressure buttons. When you press them it tells you how much room is left on the battery for energy. How do they work? And would it be possible to use that technology for a different product?

The conducting ink forms a resistor which does load the battery. The thermochromic strip lies along the resistor and responds to the heat it generates. The resistor is tapered, so its resistance per unit length increases as it gets narrower, and so does the temperature due to current flow. The point along the strip where the temperature reaches the color-change value depends on the amount of current flowing in the resistor. Thus the length of the changed color section indicates battery freshness. This is a very approximate test. A better tester loads the battery similarly, but measures the battery voltage under such loading.

How do you recharge Energizer e2 rechargeable batteries on the xbox?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2008

I have an xbox recharger cord, battery pack, and energizer e2 recharger batteries but the batteries don't seem to be recharging! When I connect the cord, xbox, and controller to recharge the batteries, there isn't a red light to indicate that its charging and either way, it doesn't seem to be charging.

If you can help, thank you very much!

Are you trying to recharge Energizer rechargeable batteries with the Xbox 360 play and charge kit? That won't work.. the play and charge kit will only recharge the Xbox 360 rechargeable battery pack.. You will need to use the Energizer battery charger to charge AA batteries..

To see why this is: Look in the Xbox 360 wireless controller battery slot.. there are two sets of contacts in there.. the ones at the bottom are for the AA batteries and the ones in a row about 1/3 of the way from the bottom are for the Xbox battery pack.. only the battery pack contacts are connected to the play and charge plug.. they did this so people don't accidentally create a dangerous condition by connecting the play and charge kit to a controller with non-rechargeable AA batteries..

Advantages of a Sun Powered Battery Charger

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2008

A sun powered battery charger is a convenient way of saving money while using natural resources. This transportable battery charger can go almost anywhere. They are easy to operate and do not require a technology degree to set up. Because the sun powers this type of charger, you will always have power available to use. Solar chargers are the wave of the future and they are quickly showing up in households across the world.

Sun power is one of the strongest free energy sources available today. By using a solar charger for your batteries and other electrical devices, you will eliminate the need for electricity. Solar power can be used to charge your batteries, but if you have a large amount of solar panels, you can also use solar energy to operate most any electrical device. Even on cloudy days, a solar battery charger will still be able to charge your batteries.

Portable solar chargers are smaller and do not offer as much power. They are most commonly used to charge battery packs and other small devices like cellular phones. A portable charger usually consists of one solar cell panel that you can connect to the equipment you want to use. It can take several hours for a portable solar charger to work. You may need to plan ahead and have batteries constantly charging, so they will be ready when you need them.

Many people today are afraid to try any new technology. As a society, we have already had to adjust to so many technological ideas that some people just do not want to have to learn about another gadget. However, solar chargers are easy to operate. You do not have to have specific technical skills to use a solar charger. Most portable chargers come ready to use and you simply have to plug them into your device or battery charger.

Because solar chargers are so easy to use, they are becoming more and more popular around the world. Backpackers are carrying them on long hiking trips. Car travelers are keeping portable chargers on their dashboards. There are even houses that are entirely run off of solar energy.

It can be intimidating to venture into a new technology like solar power. Once you buy your first charger, you will be hooked. Because they are so easy to use, many people end up buying several portable chargers to use with their battery chargers and other small electrical devices. Solar energy is a free source of power, which in today’s world of high electric prices, is just what many households are looking for.

Try out a portable solar charger for yourself. You will see that they are easy to use and very convenient. First, decide what you want to use your solar charger for, and then get a portable charger that will fit those needs. Having solar energy available is another gift that we should all take advantage of. It does not matter whether you decide to use a portable charger for charging your batteries. You can decide to connect your entire household to solar power. Using a renewable energy source such as the sun is a great start to being environmentally responsible.

Fuel Efficient School Bus Ready Soon

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2008

Soon enough, students would be brought to school and would be traveling home in a bus that is fuel efficient. And this new kind of school bus would be working on batteries from Valence Technology, Inc.

What is behind such an innovation?

It seemed like Valence is the very brain behind creations and contraptions like the U-Charge® XP Power systems which uses technology from Saphion® phosphate. And from this, Enova Systems, while working with the IC Corporation, has met with a deal so as to create such a fuel efficient school bus. Enova is one supplier of Hybrid Electric power systems that are efficient and very friendly to the environment. On the other hand, IC Corporation is one of the largest manufacturers of school buses and it has won the bid so much so that it will now be the provider of some twenty one hybrid school buses which would be distributed and used in eleven different states in the US.

These new hybrid school buses would not be quite unique and extraordinary once you take a look at it outside. Sure, those parts that make up the vehicle seem to be just like those ones you saw when you were buying those Dodge truck body parts your father needed. But underneath the hood is where you do find the difference.

According to John Dexter, “We selected Valence’s Saphion® phosphate batteries for their inherent safety, which addresses the limitations of traditional lithium-ion chemistries particularly in large batteries like those needed for hybrid vehicles. In addition to safety, Saphion technology delivers the power and energy that these buses demand. We are excited to offer school districts clean running, safe and cost effective transportation.” Dexter is the current director of operations and planning for Enova.

Such a move would actually be quite beneficial not only to school districts but it would also prove to be an advantage to the environment. Primarily, this is so because of the reduced amount of emissions that such vehicles have. And when those school systems have heard about such a change in their transportation, they were indeed elated to say at the very least.

Why does my battery die when I start my car?

Posted by admin on October 28th, 2008

I have a 2000 nissan sentra. When I start it for the first time everyday it putters and kinda jumps and then the battery dies. After I restart it, it putters for a few seconds and drives really slow. The battery usually doesnt die a second time and after I start going the car runs fine. Its been doind this for about 3 months and seems to be getting worse. The battery is less than 6 months old. Any ideas what it could be? I dont really have the money to take it to a professional right now.

if its only in the morning that this happens then it could be that you're not warming your car up enough before trying to drive, that can cause splutters as well as a slightly louder engine noise

How are batteries connected when you put them into a Walkman? And how can you figure out the total voltage?

Posted by admin on October 28th, 2008

I think batteries are connected in series in a Walkman but I am not 100% possitive.

Also, how can I find out the total voltage of two AA batteries that are each 1.5V? Is there a formula?

If batteries are side-by-side, the voltage stays the same (e.g., 1.5v), but if they're stacked end-to-end, the voltage adds up (e.g., 1.5 + 1.5=3v, etc.). Batteries are normally "stacked" into a Walkman, at least in my experience. :)

Battery Drills Are Handy To Use

Posted by admin on October 28th, 2008

There are so many cordless drills on the market today, that you can find the perfect one that has the features that you need, and is easy for you to use. The best way to achieve this is to go to a store and look at each one and try it out in your hand; you want to be sure it is comfortable for you to use. There are different hand grips, as well as different arrangements for controls. Find the one that works best for you.

One of the most important features you will want to look for in a cordless drill is variable speed. Hard materials need a slower speed, soft materials a higher speed. An excellent feature to have is an adjustable clutch, which will change the speed automatically depending on the density of the material. If you are not used to a cordless drill and how to adjust the speed, this may be ideal.

The power level of the drill is another important feature of the drill you choose. Voltage can range from 2 to 24 volts, and you will need higher voltage if you typically work on heavy materials. You will want a drill with voltage a little higher than your most demanding need, so you won’t have to worry about enough power.

Next, think about the battery you will require in your cordless drill. Battery life is an important issue since you don’t want the battery dying in the middle of a job. Best is a drill with two batteries, since one can be charging while you are using the other.

The Makita cordless drill is one of the most popular ones on the market. Since Makita was one of the first companies to offer cordless drills, they try to remain at the forefront of this technology. Makita drills are durable and are offered in many models, offering such features as variable speed, multiple torque settings and batteries that are state of the art. They may come with two batteries, and frequently with a “fast charger” that can charge the battery in fifteen minutes.

One of the best designs is the Makita 18 volt 1/2 inch cordless. This model is ergonomically designed for a good hand fit, and offers ample power for most jobs. Additional features such as variable speed, shift lock drive and two long life batteries.

The Ridgid 1/2 inch drill is a step up, with, in additional to 18 volt power, high capacity batteries and a charger that allows for two batteries to be charged at the same time. This tool is perfect for heavy duty use since it has two speed transmission and a 24 position clutch, allowing a wide range of adjustments.

The Ridgid line also carries a 3/8 inch 14.4 volt cordless. This is a great tool because of its power, but that can also tend to make it a little heavy for most users, since it weighs five pounds. It also offers the valuable features of variable speeds, including reversible, 24 clutch positions and two battery packs.
