laptop batteries maintenance notes
One: notebook computers do not need to charge-dischargeÂ
three times Unless you buy a notebook computer is more than one year of product inventory, or need not do so, as the current batteries in the battery when the factory has been activated, and the batteries in the package into a notebook battery, after a time equivalent to start the test, so you get the hands of batteries, already have been activated, and again three charge-discharge process was unnecessary to increase battery depletion.
Second: the first time do not need to charge enough to charge 12 hours
This early who do not have the battery control circuit of nickel-hydrogen batteries model is applicable, but now with the wisdom of charge and discharge control circuit for the notebook battery is a joke, when the notebook computer battery is full, the charge current will be automatically cut off, even if you continue to charge 120 hours, state and there will not be changed, generally speaking, even the slowest machine charge, six hours completely filled, the remaining “charge” is just a waste of their time. It is time to get new machines should be??first rechargeable battery.
Three: the need for regular battery calibration
Strong memory effect for nickel-hydrogen batteries, which is an essential task, but for Li-ion battery, this cycle does not need to be too frequent, lithium batteries does not completely eliminate the memory effect, but has been greatly reduced memory effect, if you use the battery very frequently, then you should discharge the battery to the relatively low (about 10 ~ 15%) rechargeable, but even if the discharge machines are not open (0 ~ 1%), belong to the lithium batteries have greater depth of injury discharge, as a general rule every two months to do this kind of operation once it. If you seldom use batteries, so long as every 3 months to conduct a this kind of operation it.
Four: to carry out the battery calibration
The so-called correction, when the actual capacity of the battery and control circuit capacity not the same record, the depth of a battery charge and discharge operation, so that control circuit record so close to the actual situation of the battery, this is a true performance of the battery capacity operation rather than to enhance the capacity of the key factors here is the actual capacity of the battery, if the actual capacity of the battery control circuit than the capacity to record high, correction can increase the capacity of the battery looks, if the battery’s actual capacity than the control circuit capacity to a record low, the correction will reduce the capacity of the battery looks, please remember that correction is to make the real capacity of the battery is shown by the battery and control circuitry to eliminate the deviation between, as demonstrated capacity will increase or decrease, This is the status of the battery itself, rather than your correction determined. Correction is likely because the battery discharge when the depth of injury, but a substantial reduction in capacity.

I would get an Acer if I was you. I was on about the same budget and a student as well. The manager of staples used to work for several comp companies and knew a lot. He told me about how Acers motherboards are in most comps that are good. I trusted him and bought one. That was 2 years ago and my laptop still runs like the day I bought it. I love it and now I am an Acer buyer for life.
DO Not ever buy a dell THEY SUCK! I did have an HP computer before this acer it was good for awhile but not to long everything went down fast and it eventually stopped working after a few years, I would never get another one.

You will need at Least 1GB of ram memory and possibly a larger hard drive. Vista is a memory hog. Otherwise the specs. look good. If you know someone who bought one ask how it worked from them or problems they encountered.
