battery tester September 24th, 2009i have a bmw 1098 520 model brought the car to the garage as it wouldn’t start they said it was the alternator i got a new alternator now the car is still the same battery not charging when i put an battery and alternator tester on to the Battery the lights for battery are ok but the is no light showing up to say the alternator is charging the battery
any ideas
it cant be the Voltage regulator as these is built into the alternator
Think I answered your question before. Your still messing up the year. the 520 is a Europe only model. Before I open my fig fat mouth again lets get some badly needed information here. YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And is the battery light in the dash coming on just before you start the car?
Typically with BMW’s wires are not the problem not even the battery a alternator either charges or it doesn’t.

It might just be the diodes, which should have been checked first by an auto electrician, before you even consider an expensive alternator replacement, you can change the diodes yourself very easily, even a new alternator can fail on start up.I gather they checked the voltage regulator first.?

The first thing with electrics is to take it to a good auto electrician, garages very often cannot sort it or con you into buying new modules.Take it to the experts and pay less, they will have cheaper rebuilt exchange units as well.

if batt is 3yrs old replace batt/bmws are tricky with batt problems/they zero out and your working with false readings and water charge only

Take the alternator back; it appears to be faulty. It can be the voltage regulator - just ‘cos it’s in the alt. doesn’t mean it can’t go wrong.

Often overlooked, are the earth leads from the engine to the chassis. These can be absolutely vital, and are sooo easy to remove, inspect, clean up with abrasive paper,(or replace) and re-fit.
