What makes my battery voltage drop down if I have a new battery and a new alternator?
battery September 22nd, 2009I have a 1999 Grand Marquise. In hot weather (AC on) and more when in traffic jams after long city driving, my battery voltage drops down almost to a quarter or below of the battery voltage scale.
I have installed a new battery and a new alternator but to no vail. Battery is only getting about 13.2 volts. What could be the problem?
Thank you for your help and prompt repsonse.

If the voltage increases back to about 14 or 14.5 when the engine is above idle, your OK. If not, go to an auto electric specialist for diagnostic. The alternator is not designed to put out max amps at idle.

A 12 volt battery getting 13.2 is fine*

Everything that contributes to rotational mass puts extra strain on the battery… eg, No power steering and a/c and or no fans means more power.
Not that this is the case.
Aslong as your not popping fuses and your car starts no problem you should be fine.

Check your alternator if its the same capacity with that of original alternator intended for that particular car of yours, it might not be sufficient to power all your car electrical equipment especially at the maximum power requirement.
